Vehicle Fire Investigation Basics - Determining the Origin

This presentation will cover basics associated with vehicle fire investigations. Topics include vehicle terminology, burn pattern recognition, evidence collection, and documentation associated with vehicle fires.

The program presenter, Chris Ellis, began in the fire service in 1996, and started working for the Sharonville Fire Department in 2002 where he was promoted to Lieutenant in 2011 and currently serves as a Special Deputy with the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. Chris started fire investigation in 2008 and became a member of the Hamilton County Fire Investigation Unit where he currently is the Central Team Captain. Chris holds the IAAI credentials of Certified Fire Investigator, Certified Instructor, Evidence Collection Technician, Fire Investigation Technician, and the Vehicle Fire Investigator Endorsement. Chris also holds the Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator and Vehicle Fire Investigator credentials through NAFI. He is a current member of the IAAI and the Ohio IAAI chapter, where he is a board member and training committee chair person. Chris has also developed and instructed many basic and advanced fire investigation courses through Great Oaks Public Safety Program for adults. Chris is an Evidence Collection Practicum Facilitator and is a vehicle program instructor for the IAAI.
